MORE INFO
.: Brief Description :.
Neptune, or Poseidon, depending on whether we are talking about Roman or Greek mythology, refers to the God of the Sea and
Oceans with power over the water world. This red alga, native to Australia and discovered there in 1855, takes its name by analogy
with the presence of hooks or harpoons on its barbed branchlets, resembling the god's trident. From the Bonnemaisoniaceae family,
Neptune Harpoon or Asparagopsis armata, is a pluricellular alga with pale pink to red fi laments, 10 cm tall, and is characterized by
a highly complex trigenetic life cycle, as it comprises 3 different generations.
Neptune Harpoon became naturalized on European coasts aft er travelling from Oceania on the hulls of boats. From 1936, it was
found to be growing naturally on Ouessant Island, the jewel of the Iroise Sea. This red alga has a specific structure which comes from
the presence of cells which secrete not only iodinated but also brominated and chlorinated volatile halogenic organic compounds,
giving it PURIFYING ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL
PROPERTIES (Biard J.F., 1980 - Pinteus S., 2015). It should also be noted that iodine, in which a large part of the population is
considered to be deficient, stimulates the SKIN HYDRATION process. The walls of Asparagopsisarmata also contain
ORIGINAL POLYSACCHARIDES, SULPHATED GALACTANS, agaroid compounds and various carrageenan groups with FILMFORMING
PROPERTIES, that can be used to minimize absorption of environmental pollutants by the skin.
